Today's UAVs
In today's world drones play a key role in many ways. For example drones help us photograph stuff from aerial views for relatively little cost. Not many years ago drones would not have had the ability they have now and to do simple tasks you would need a helicopter or plane which is way more of a hassle.

The First Drones or UAVs

The first drones were built in 1939. At the start of world war two, these drones were built by the US government as recon radio controlled drones without real time action, but never the less unmanned and flying. The first real time drones were built by the Israelis in 1973. It was called the Massif. Later on they built the IAI Scout, these drones eventually lead to America's Phantom drone line. Since then drones have

changed in many ways and have become a consumer product. One of the most prestigious advances in the consumer field was the quad copter. The quad copter is a four rotor helicopter that changes the speed of the motors to change the angle of attack which changes direction.

The computers

Drones are one of the most technologically advanced things in the world as they require high accuracy GPS's for higher end drones that can return to a start position (Phantom 4). Drones also require fine tuned flight control systems that change a movement on the controls to a movement on a drone. This is especially important on quad copters as the flight control changes forward motion on controls to a motor RPM increase or decrease. Drones even have simple things like speedometers, but also require advanced things like adjustable cameras that can be moved around at the user's request, that uses high quality robotics for minimal issues while in use especially for military drones. Aimable cameras are not the case for all drones as many lower end drones require you to move the drone to angle the camera. Many military UAVs also have extremely powerful transmitting ability and can transmit, for example real time video from the middle east all the way to Nevada USA. Some large aerospace companies as seen above are also working on self sufficient drones that can fly until they break using solar panels. These could one day act like mini satellites for cites.

The following Video is a video that mainly
focuses on the military part of drone history.

Why were drones made?
Drones were made because air combat is very dangerous and has a much lower survival rate than say maybe....flying an RC plane, and that is exactly what drones are. Drones are RC planes with cameras and advanced technology on it, well more advanced technology. In all, drones exist to keep people from having to be in harms way, and to help people.
